Updating your McAfee Virus Definition Files

-For most users, your McAfee VirusScan will update itself automatically at a random time every day the computer is turned on.  To check the update schedule:

• Right-click the VirusScan icon at the lower right hand side of your screen.
• Left-click the "VirusScan Console" option.
• Left-click the "Auto Update" option to highlight it.
• Right-click the "Auto Update" icon and select "Properties."
• Click on the "Schedule" button.
• Click on the "Schedule" tab.
• Modify the parameters to suit your needs.  Otherwise, just close the VirusScan windows.

-To update your VirusScan definition files manually:

• Look for the McAfee icon in the lower right hand side of your screen. The icon looks like a shield with a "V" in it.
• Right click the icon and select "Update now."
• Your computer will connect to an OIT McAfee update server and download the appropriate files.
• When the download is complete, you may close the update window.
